Youth Wrestling at its Best!

Following are a few Guidelines and Rules.  The 2005 Parent Meeting is also available at the end of the rules list.

Hello Wrestling Parents!

Welcome to another year of Kids Wrestling at the Russell Wrestling Club. We have new members each year and always many good questions about how the club operates.

To join the club you must sign a release form and pay $10 club fee. The release form also includes a section for the medical condition of your child such as asthma, seizures, etc. It is also very important that we are aware of any conditions or medications in the event of your parents absence.

USA Wrestling requires that all participants have a sanction card. This insures the wrestler with a secondary coverage. The cost is a Non-refundable $30. Both of these fees ($10 club fee and $30 USA fee) must be paid before your child can practice or compete. Both fees may be paid with one check.

The tournaments are on Saturdays and the cost to enter is usually $12. Tournament fees are non-refundable. We need to know about 2 weeks ahead if your wrestler is going to compete. Money and forms have to be in so they have time to get brackets made out. We will be providing a list of tournaments for everyone with the calendars and announcements at the practices.

You are responsible for getting your child to the tournaments. The club does not provide transportation to and from tournaments. If your child needs a ride consider asking some of the other parents before asking the coaches. The coaches are extremely busy at the tournaments as they are on the mats watching every match...relying on them to watch your child would limit their ability to coach and the attention your child should have.

Another reason is this...WE DO LIKE THE PARENTS TO BE INVOLVED AND ATTEND THE TOURNAMENTS. If you would be interested in participating in any of the administrative duties let a coach know. There may be some extra help needed in certain areas.

Headgear is required by the wrestling association and the club does have a few left that can be purchased. Wrestling shoes are not required but highly suggested. If you wear tennis shoes make sure there is nothing on them that can poke or scratch the opponent in any way. The bottoms of the shoes are to be smooth and free of anything that could tear or damage the wrestling mat. Wrestling shoes should not be worn outside.

Singlets are provided by the club for tournaments only. They are not to be worn for practice. They are to be returned at the end of the season in the same condition received. If you lose or damage them the cost is $50. Normal wear and tear is expected.

Clothes for practice should be T-shirts and shorts or sweats. Absolutely no jeans or pockets. Fingers can get caught very easily. If you wear sweats with buttons or snaps wear a pair of shorts under them. We don’t want any buttons, zippers or pockets visible. Again, headgear and proper shoes are required.

Practice time will try to stay the same but some conditions may require the time to change. We will notify you by phone or email of any changes. The regular practice will be from 6:30 to 8:00 each evening. Most 6 and under kids lose their attention after an hour. 6 and under practice will end at 7:30. PLEASE BE READY TO PRACTICE AT 6:30 SHARP. Please use the back door that comes into the weight room on the NE corner of the High School. This makes things less confusing if there are High School events.

If your child has been ill or running a fever, please do not come to practice. Due to the constant contact with other kids these illnesses can spread easily. We would also like each parent to come inside to pick up their child. It is dark and we can’t watch each child outside. If they are riding with someone else please let a coach know.

Anything that needs to be discussed with the parents and wrestlers can be done at the end of practice. This is a fun sport! Please help us keep the line of communication open by letting us know any concerns at all.

We want to thank you in advance for your support and we hope you enjoy the season as much as we will. There is nothing like watching your wrestler grow and learn in a sport like wrestling. Any questions at all, don’t hesitate to ask! The Russell Rumble will be on February 11th this year. All parents will be asked to help.

Just a reminder to check out the Kansas Official Wrestling Website for tournament results.  The talk forum is usually interesting also.

Wrestling is underway!
Just a reminder to have the wrestlers shower every night and wear warm clothes and a hat for cold nights after practice. We are working hard to keep the cold & flu out of the wrestling room.
